DHS Information on Future Eligible Groups:

DHS announced future groups that will be eligible for vaccine. These populations will tentatively be eligible beginning March 1, though the start date is dependent on the vaccine supply from the federal government.

The groups were selected after careful review and consideration from the State Disaster Medical Advisory Committee (SDMAC). Due to the limited amount of COVID-19 vaccine doses available, we must prioritize which populations can receive vaccine. DHS makes these decisions based on populations with an increased risk of exposure to COVID-19 and those more vulnerable to severe complications from the virus.

Future eligible populations includes the following groups (in priority order):

  • Educators and child care
  • Individuals enrolled in Medicaid long-term care programs
  • Some public-facing essential workers like food supply, public transit, utility and communications infrastructure, and 911 operators
  • Non-frontline health care essential personnel
  • Congregate living facility staff and residents

For more specific descriptions of these population, please visit our COVID-19 vaccine eligibility page.

Currently, the amount of vaccine allocated to Wisconsin does not meet the amount of vaccine doses requested by vaccine providers. The start date for vaccinations was determined given the current trend of Wisconsin’s weekly vaccine allocations. If the federal government increases our weekly vaccine allocation, vaccinations for these groups may begin before March 1. If Wisconsin receives less vaccine than expected in the coming weeks, this date could be pushed back.

We recommend that you use the Wisconsin COVID-19: Vaccine webpage to stay informed on our efforts and also encourage you to widely share this resources with partners. Due to the nature of the vaccination initiative, information quickly evolves and changes. The vaccine team will make every effort to communicate the most up-to-date information as soon as it is available.

The Wisconsin COVID-19 Vaccine Program is a monumental undertaking and our team is committed to the equitable, quick, and safe distribution of COVID-19 vaccine throughout the state.
